Saginaw-area spring sports highlights: Freeland opens soccer season with shutout

Freeland opened the girls soccer season Tuesday with a 3-0 shutout against Hemlock.
Abbie Johnson, Cessaly Fichtner and Audrey Mueller scored for the Falcons in the non-conference victory.
Taryn Pratt made 27 saves in goal for Hemlock, which lost to Flushing in its season opener.
Millington 3, Otisville-LakeVille 2: Junior Savanna Bemiss scored with 2:50 remaining to break a 2-2 tie and give Millington a win in its season-opener. Sophomore EmmaLeigh Peters led the Cardinals with two goals and an assist, while Brooklyn Barden added an assist. Kendra Peterson made six saves in goal to earn the win.
Girls Tennis
Heritage 4, Hemlock 3: Heritage earned a slim 4-3-1 win over Hemlock, with Claire Beck and Anna Nurnberg claiming singles wins for the Huskies. Hemlock’s Olivia Chasnis and Alathea McMillan claimed a doubles win, while Lindsey Tausch settle for a singles tie.
