'Said I'd Win FIFA CWC For Diogo And Andre': Pedro Neto's Homage To Late Compatriots

Premier League side Chelsea clinched the 2025 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup with their 2-0 win over French heavyweights PSG in the final of the tournament at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Monday. Cole Palmer netted twice before setting Joao Pedro up for the third as Enzo Maresca’s men shocked Luis Enrique and Co. in a major upset Ahead of the summit clash, Portuguese International Pedro Neto, vowed to win the revamped edition of the tournament to honour the memory of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva, who succumbed to their end following a car crash in Spain a couple of weeks ago. “I said I would win it for Diogo and Andre. This one is for them and their families, and we are really happy,” Neto said. Jota and his brother, Silva, met their end on July 3, 2025, after a tragic car accident in Zamora, Spain, at just 28 years of age. Jota’s car went off the road while driving at a high speed, following a tyre blowout, and caught fire, the Spanish police said. The Londoners were defeated by the Brazilian outfit but later achieved victories against Esperance Tunisia and MLS team LAFC. In the Round of 16, Chelsea faced Portuguese giants Benfica and triumphed with a 4-1 victory. They then narrowly defeated Brazilian team Palmeiras 2-1 in the quarterfinal. A 2-0 win against Fluminense in the semifinal ensured their place in the final held on American soil, which they ultimately ended up winning. “It’s an unbelievable win. The way we worked was unbelievable; the way we finished the tournament with this win – we are really happy,” Neto continued. “It’s the best feeling, to be honest. To be here with my mates and this club. I’m enjoying this moment, and winning this trophy with this club is an unbelievable feeling,” he added. “I just want more and more, that’s my mentality. I’m here to win titles with this club and these special team-mates, and I hope we can go on from there,” the Portuguese international said.
