Is having two new faces leading a film a recipe for disaster? Saiyaara has turned the tables and how! When many big-ticket entertainers struggled to crack the blockbuster code, a mid-scale romantic musical came along to prove that content is king and audience is the kingmaker. Mohit Suri, known for making modern love stories for the big screen, struck the right chord with the young with chartbuster songs, a fresh pairing and a precise trailer cut that retained intrigue and curiosity. Saiyaara might be two days old at the box office, but it has broken the records of many blockbuster films. Before the weekend wraps, the film starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda has scripted history in many ways. While Saiyaara continues its unprecedented run at the box office, let’s take a look at the six records it has broken in two days. Ahaan and Aneet’s film surpassed the opening collection of movies starring well-promoted newcomers. Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s Dhadak (2018) held the position before Saiyaara released. The Shashank Khaitan directorial took an opening of Rs 8.71 crore. Next in line was Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra’s fan favourite, Student Of The Year. The Karan Johar-helmed campus rom-com did a business of Rs 7.48 crore on the first day in 2012. Biggest Opening For Bollywood Romantic Films With Rs 21. 25 crore opening, Saiyaara dethroned Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Ram Leela and Jab Harry Met Sejal came fourth and fifth on the list with Rs 15.85 crore and Rs 15.25 crore openings. Mohit Suri’s Biggest Opener Mohit Suri’s films have been received well by the audience. Most of them were box office successes. But, Saiyaara became his biggest opener. Raaz 2 collected Rs 3.95 crore, Murder 2 did a business of Rs 6.95 crore, Aashiqui 2 opened with Rs 5.11 crore, whereas Ek Villain was his only double-digital opener before Saiyaara with Rs 16.50 crore. Hamari Adhuri Kahani, Half Girlfriend, Malang and Ek Villain Returns were decent performers. Highest Pre-Sales For Debutants After 2000s According to Sacnilk’s data, Saiyaara sold the highest tickets for a debutants-led film after the 2000s. The data suggested that the romantic drama did a sale of 3.8 lakh tickets when the advance booking window opened. Fourth Biggest Opener Of 2025 Ahaan and Aneet’s film made a smashing entry into the list of top 5 openers of 2025. The romantic musical surpassed the first-day collections of Raid 2 and Sky Force to make it to the fourth position. Chhaava, Sikandar and Housefull 5 are its competitors. Biggest YRF Non-Franchise Film After Pandemic Post the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, Yash Raj Films’ non-franchise movies have failed to click at the box office. Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Samrat Prithviraj, Shamshera and The Great Indian Family did not perform as per expectations. Breaking the jinx, Saiyaara emerged victorious at the box office.
