Sam Thompson has undertaken his third day of his gruelling multi-marathon challenge for charity. It comes as the 32 year old sustained a a calf injury after just two days, after being joined by CBB star Chris Hughes. The I'm A Celeb star has been tasked with travelling a mammoth 260-mile journey on bike and foot to deliver the match ball to Old Trafford, with the aim raising much-needed funds for UNICEF. Sam has raised a total of £198.922.66 so far. To complete the challenge, Sam is expected to run a marathon for five days and cycle in between, ensuring the ball arrives on June 6, just in time for kickoff on Sunday, June 15. Despite his injury, he is raring to go again and was joined by pal Chris Hughes on Tuesday. "So proud of what Sam is achieving this week, a pure soul doing an amazing job keep donating!," Chris wrote alongside a clip of a worn out Sam, as he beamed at the sight of Chris and the pair shared a huge hug . Joining the Made In Chelsea star on the road cycling alongside one another, as the pair battled against the rain, Chris added "Keep donating towards Sam's challenge , it's seriously inspiring and he needs every boost he can get." "I saw the emotion drain from him earlier, he battles on and is doing so well." Elsewhere, Sam admitted following his second day that he didn't expect it to be as hard as it has been. "The rain wasn't expected and it was pretty windy and it's just not very nice. But I mean look, this is literally why we're here for these exact reasons. It makes me so happy when someone turns up and Chris turned up, and he was just such a good guy cracking gags along the way. "It was really lovely having you there mate,I really appreciate it" he said turning to Chris, who proudly voiced his admiration for his pal despite the challenges along the way. "Keep going brother," he encouraged. Setting off on day three from Villa Park, Birmingham, Sam is expected to cover another 49 miles today on Wednesday, June 4, as he passes through Walsall, Cannock, Stafford and Stone on his way to Vale Park in Stoke-on-Trent to reach his third finish line tonight. Still battling forwards with an injured calf and given the green light by the medical team, Sam is determined to transport the Soccer Aid match ball one way or another. Sam said: “This is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I now have to accept that I’ve done damage to my calf and running is very difficult. But I can and will carry on, not matter what, on two feet and two pedals, I’m still going to get there and get across the finish line on Friday. It’s just going to be longer, harder but my reason for doing it still hasn’t changed. I really hope people are digging deep for UNICEF, seeing what I’m trying to do and are getting behind this challenge.” Join the Daily Record's WhatsApp community here and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.
