Sanju Samson is India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in T20I these days, and the 30-year-old right-handed batter from Kerala is all set to be part of the Asia Cup 2025 squad, which is expected to be released by BCCI in a couple of weeks’ time. Since making his T20I debut for India as a 20-year-old against Zimbabwe in July 2015, Samson has played a total of 42 matches so far and, with the help of three centuries and two fifties, scored a total of 861 runs. Last year, he entered his name in the history books by becoming the first cricketer in the world to hit three centuries in a calendar year. Samson, who has also played 16 ODIs for India, in which he also has one century and three fifties to his name, recently made an appearance on Ravichandran Ashwin’s Kutti Stories on YouTube, and during the chat, when Ashwin asked him to name one cricketing dream he would like to tick off before hanging up his boots, Samson said, “Probably hitting six sixes in one over.” Yuvraj Singh was the first cricketer to hit six sixes in an over of a T20I match. He achieved the feat during the 2007 India vs England T20 World Cup match played at Kingsmead in Durban on September 19, 2007. Legendary West Indies all-rounder and former captain Kieron Pollard has also smashed six sixes in an over of a T20I match. Pollard achieved the feat against Sri Lanka in Antigua on March 3, 2021. Nepal batter Dipendra Singh Airee (vs Qatar in Al Amerat on April 13, 2024) and Manan Bashir of Bulgaria (vs Gibraltar on July 13, 2025) have also scored six sixes in one over of a T20I match. In ODIs, two batters – Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa and Jaskaran Malhotra of the USA – have scored six sixes in an over. Samson to leave RR? It has been reported that Samson is not happy with Rajasthan Royals management and has formally expressed his desire to leave the franchise. Samson has played a total of 149 matches for the Jaipur-based franchise in IPL and has scored more than 4000 runs. He is the most capped player and highest run scorer for the inaugural edition winners in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.
