India will next be seen in action at the Asia Cup 2025, which is set to be held in UAE, with their first match beginning on September 10 against the hosts. India have named their squad for the mega tournament. Sanju Samson is an integral part of the squad, having been one of the best performers with the bat in T20Is for India in recent times. However, his place as an opener in the playing XI for the Asia Cup has been threatened with the selection of Shubman Gill, who was appointed vice-captain. While there have been speculations that he might be omitted from the XI, his mentor Raiphi Gomez has suggested otherwise. In an interaction with The Telegraph, Gomez, who is a former Kerala cricketer, said that Sanju Samson is flexible enough to bat lower down the order. He also said that Samson is not concerned about the outside noise before the start of the Asia Cup 2025. “Being a professional and internationally established player, Sanju is flexible enough to make the adjustments if he has to bat down the order. His flexibility is what guides him, and he is very confident about his abilities,” Gomez said. “Has Sanju said anything about being under pressure? No. So, it’s all outside noise, and we are not really concerned about what is being said outside. Our focus is on making sure Sanju keeps getting better with the bat. He is only concerned about the job he needs to do for India,” he added. Raiphi Gomez informed that he spent the necessary time in the BCCI Centre of Excellence, and is looking in good form, as was evident during his performances in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL). “What happened in the England T20Is is part and parcel of the game, which every cricketer goes through. Then, after the injury during the IPL, he spent necessary time at the (BCCI) Centre of Excellence to regain fitness, and now, he appears well placed rhythm-wise, playing in these KCL matches,”
