@Source: echolive.ie
Sarsfields 1-21 Charleville 2-14 A cracking RedFM Division 1 Hurling League clash at the magnificent Pairc Tadgh Mac Carthaigh saw Sars's terrific late rally against Charleville secure the win. This game hung in the balance right to the wire but just when Charleville looked to be heading for victory, Sars found another gear, much to the delight of the home supporters. On a beautiful morning at Riverstown, the home side struck the opening point three minutes into the game courtesy of a fabulous, Darragh Long White flag. Charleville had plenty of possession in the opening exchanges, but some wayward shooting was visible before a Robert Carroll 65 in the seventh minute settled them into their stride. In the opening quarter, Sars failed to match their opponents in the physicality stakes but when Aaron Myers struck over his third point in the 18th minute it reduced the deficit to the minimum 0-7 to 0-6. We then witnessed a classy Sars goal when a stunning solo run by Barry O’Flynn saw him assist a pinpoint pass to Ben Nodwell who found the back of the net from close range. Incredibly Charleville responded a minute later when poor defensive play from Sars allowed Conor Buckley to find the back of the net. The North Cork side then grabbed points from Robert Carroll and Oran O’Connell which saw them go in at the break commanding a 1-10 to 1-8 lead. On the restart, Sars upped their intensity level and a stunning Sam McNamara point had the teams on parity in the 37th minute. The aid of the wind was helping Sars and their coaching staff will be happy with the performance of Cork U20 star Barry O’Flynn, who looks a serious prospect. In the 55th minute, we witnessed a stunning second Charleville goal when substitute Garrett Gleeson latched on to a loose ball and billowed the roof of the net. Trailing by the minimum Sars needed an instant response and to be fair some of their striking was sublime with Cian Darcy driving the team from midfield. Goalkeeper Ben Graham nailed two late long-range frees as Sars responded in style to eventually see off a resilient Charleville side who will be no easy opponents for any side in championship.
