The new Savusavu $1million double-storey building to house their market will open next month.
The Ministry of the Local Government announced early January that it will be done this month, but it has been extended to May 9.
The project initially started in October 2022 by the previous Government administration.
The construction project is funded by the Fiji Government and United Nation (UN) Women Markets for Change project.
Minister for Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa was in Savusavu to inspect the new market last Thursday.
He also had a meeting with the Savusavu Town Council and stakeholders involved in the project.
“The Savusavu market completion certificate has been issued and we will look forward to the opening,” Mr Nalumisa said.
“The delay is due to items that need checking and done properly. Apart from that bad weather hindered progress,” he said.
“I have been closely monitoring this project and the good news is that it is expected to cater 180 vendors.
“Having a municipal market in a town or city plays a crucial role in local Government because it encourages entrepreneurship among farmers and middleman; it also supports local businesses and boosts the circulation of money locally.”
