RTE viewers have hailed The Saw Doctors as 'absolute legends' after two of the band's members appeared as guests on the latest episode of RTE's Tommy Tiernan Show.
The Galway group rose to international fame in 1990 with hits like I Useta Love Her and N17 and continue to sell out shows both at home and abroad.
Founding members Leo Moran and Davy Carton joined Tommy Tiernan on his RTE chat show on Saturday night to discuss the band's long history and their enduring success.
The Saw Doctors reunited in 2022 after a five-year break and have enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years as a new generation of Irish people discover their music.
When asked to reflect on the band being arguably bigger now then back when they releasing their best-known hits, Leo told Tommy: "Obviously, absence made the hearts grow fonder.
"We're very lucky that people stayed with us and wanted to bother to come back and see us after the break.
"We kind of stopped in 2013, and we had a few gigs then in '16 and '17 and then we came back proper then in '22."
"Then we got all young kids coming out to see us which is amazing," Davy added.
The duo went on to discuss the effort they put in to each and every gig to ensure that they give concertgoers they night they deserve.
"First of all, I always think they pay their money to come and see us to perform, it's only right and fitting that we go out there give them our best," Davy said. "You know, I've always had that attitude."
"Some nights are just special, and you the finish the gig and you think, 'God, that couldn't have been any better'," Leo added.
"Most of our nights are very good, and one of our early ambitions was on a bad night that we'd be fairly middling.
"And and we kind of achieved that. On a bad night, we're not bad at all. And we don't have many bad nights at all."
In a surprise ending to the show, The Saw Doctors joined up with the RTE Concert Orchestra under conductor Gavin Murphy, to deliver a powerful version of their song Same Oul’ Town.
The interview and performance went down a storm with viewers watching on from home who hailed the duo as "sound lads".
"Saw doctors just legends," one person wrote on X/Twitter, while another added: "The Saw Doctors are sound lads, not a hint of notions about them."
Another viewer wrote: "Saw doctors are what I like about Irish country lads, great craic, honest, no fakery," with another adding: "Loved that! Absolute legends all round."
"Top class from @TheSawDoctors, Davy Carton & Leo Moran are two absolute gents. Doing us West of Ireland folk proud as per usual," another person wrote on social media, while another added: "@sawdoctors are national treasures. A great show tonight."
There was also plenty of praise for Tommy's interviewing style, with one person writing: "A beautiful interview with Leo and Davy from the Saw Doctors. Heartfelt, funny, and full of nostalgia. Tommy continues to shine."
While another hailed the Navan comedian as a 'master storyteller', writing: "Delighted RTE are producing a chat show that has sincere authenticity about it & a talented interviewer who bring out the best in their guests in the master storyteller yet eager listener. Saturday is way too quiet without Tommy on my TV.
"There's no doubt @Tommedian can really do an insightful interview because he’s actually interested in the person he chats to. As much as I'd love to see him host The Late Late Show, really think it would be a waste of his talent as a true master storyteller".
