Schoolboy, 16, found dead with broken legs as bizarre mystery over 'killer' solved

The mysterious death of a 16-year-old student had investigators completely perplexed before the very unusual circumstances surrounding the tragedy were finally uncovered. The investigation into what had really happened to Delvonte Tisdale began in November 2010 when police were called after the discovery of a body laying in the road of an upscale Boston suburb. The circumstances were strange; the young man was only wearing jeans, with his shoes, socks and T-shirt missing, he had suffered severe trauma to his head, cuts and road burn marks all over his body, and two broken legs. It comes after a woman vanished in a car crash - only to turn up months later with wild story . Initially it was suspected he had been shot and then run over, or he had been dragged to his death by a vehicle. There were five female students at the scene when investigators arrived. The girls had not called the police themselves, instead flagging down another driver to phone the authorities, and blood and brain matter were found on the underbelly of their Jeep. CCTV also captured the jeep stop at the scene, drive off, and then return with a white Audi in convoy. The cars were seen going back and forth several times. It seemed that the police had their answer - but they soon found themselves back at square one. When the owner of the Audi was found, she explained that her friends in the Jeep had called her and asked her if she wanted to see a dead body - and out of curiosity, she went. The girls said they had hesitated to call the cops because they were worried about getting into trouble for possession of marijuana, and one thought her car wasn't legally registered. Then forensics were able to confirm that neither vehicles had been in a collision; they had instead driven through the body matter which had spread out over the road. A big breakthrough came when detectives found a school hall pass deep in the pockets of the schoolboy's jeans, Crime Monthly magazine reports. It featured Delvonte Tisdale's name and police were eventually able to link him to North Carolina, where he has been reported missing. But how had he ended up some 700 miles away in Boston? When investigators spoke to his family, his sister confirmed that Delvonte - who dreamed of flying jets in the US Air Force - had been unhappy living with his dad in Charlotte and suggested he might have run away. But his mother lived in Baltimore, nowhere near, and Charlotte was some 900 miles away from Boston. It was a chance remark that led police to solve the case. While discussing what could have happened to the teen, one investigator mused, "He didn't just fall out of the sky." Investigators were inspired to check the flight path from Charlotte to Boston Logan airport, and realised it would have flown over the area where Delvonte's body was found. A search of the area led to the discovery of his Nike trainers and red T-shirt. Finally the truth of Delvonte's final hours were revealed. He had caught a bus to Charlotte airport, where he had stowed away in the wheel arch of a plane heading to Boston. The tragic teen would have suffered a horrific ordeal; it would have been incredibly hot during takeoff and as the plane climbed, both the temperature and oxygen levels would have dramatically dropped. He might have been crushed as the wheels retracted, and it is unlikely he was still alive when the landing gear was lowered. The impact of his body hitting the road would have been devastating. Delvonte's parents tried to sue the airport, the airline, and the city of Charlotte for negligence, but a judge threw their lawsuit out.
