Scotland v Ireland: Three key head to heads for Six Nations clash at Murrayfield
@Source: Michael Scully
Across Scotland's backline there are players who have their sights set on impressing Andy Farrell this weekend.
The Murrayfield hosts possess a potent backline but much will depend on whether Finn Russell is on form - and is allowed to play - by Ireland's defence.
Past results prove that Ireland have had the upper hand but this time Russell finds himself up against a novice at Test level, albeit a very talented one. This is his chance to nail down a big role for the Lions - as well as ending Ireland's total domination of this fixture.
With Peter O'Mahony and Robbie Henshaw back in the starting line-up, Ireland's most experienced players will be out to dilute his influence on the occasion.
FINN RUSSELL V SAM PRENDERGAST
A master versus apprentice type scenario here at Test level but Prendergast looked the part when the rivals crossed swords in Leinster's recent Champions Cup victory over Bath.
There were sparks of invention from Russell against Italy but also evidence of the inconsistency that bedevils him. Prendergast remains under pressure from Jack Crowley to show why he deserves to start.
PETER O'MAHONY V MATT FAGERSON
Ireland expect a fiery welcome in Murrayfield thus it makes sense to restore their Munster warrior, who gets the nod over Ryan Baird.
The 35-year-old has a point to prove and he's at his best when that's the case. Will also be invaluable at the lineout with a much tougher test expected than was delivered by England. The experienced Fagerson switches from No.8 to the blindside.
ROBBIE HENSHAW V HUW JONES
Ireland's midfield defence was breached several times in the first half by England and it is interesting that Henshaw has replaced Garry Ringrose.
Simon Easterby is fortunate to have quality depth at centre, whereas Scotland are badly missing the influential Sione Tuipulotu and that should give Henshaw and Bundee Aki the edge against a very new Jones-Tom Jordan partnership.
