Scotland's "best place to live" in 2025 has been crowned. On Tuesday, Garrington Property Finders unveiled its Best Places to Live 2025 guide.
The roundup includes prime locations to move to in Scotland, England, and Wales this year, based on factors such as natural beauty and value for money.
The overall winner of Garrington Property Finders' Scottish ranking is Bridge of Allan. The former spa town is situated three miles from Stirling city centre and is nestled at the foot of the Ochil Hills.
An average home in the area costs £245,544, which is more than the Scottish national average. However, prices increased by only 4.8 per cent over the past year — lower than the national trend.
Bridge of Allan is best known for being home to the University of Stirling, which has a global reputation for high-quality teaching and research. Additionally, it features a leisure centre, various sporting facilities, and a golf club, as well as a wide variety of shops and restaurants.
The town is also known for its abundance of green space, nestled in wooded countryside on Allan Water. It features scenic hikes such as Darn Walk, which as we previously reported, is said to have inspired Treasure Island author Robert Louis Stevenson.
Garrington Property Finders wrote: "This former spa town, which is just three miles from central Stirling and dotted with handsome Victorian villas, is nestled at the foot of the Ochil Hills and is home to the University of Stirling.
"Bridge of Allan first surged in popularity during the 19th century, when its spa attracted the likes of Robert Louis Stevenson and Charles Dickens. While visitors no longer come to take the town’s healing waters, its compelling location and good quality of life saw it perform highly in all four of the categories that determine the overall Scottish ranking."
Elsewhere, nearby Dunblane was named as the second best location in Scotland in 2025. The town, which is also located in Stirlingshire, was noted for its "stunning countryside and riverside walks".
Dunblane is known for being the hometown of tennis megastar Andy Murray, while it also features a historic cathedral and the oldest private library in Scotland. According to the experts, the average cost of a home in the town is £245,544.
Following behind in third place on the list is the former mining settlement of Loanhead in Midlothian. The average price of property in the town was found to be £229,169.
Rounding out the top five best places to live on Garrington Property Finders' list are Penicuik in Midlothian and Queensferry in Edinburgh, where average home costs are £229,169 and £321,948, respectively.
Other destinations to appear on the top 10 include Bearsden in East Dunbartonshire, Perth, and Cockenzie and Port Setton in East Lothian. Completing the list are Dunbar and North Berwick in East Lothian, placing ninth and 10th respectively.
When putting together their list, the experts identified 160 cities, towns and villages across Scotland. Natural beauty, wellbeing, employment, connectivity, and value for money were all considered when deciding the top 10.
