The third round of the 89th Masters Tournament has concluded and Rory McIlroy turned a two-shot deficit into a two-shot lead entering the final round. Meanwhile, reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler failed to gain any traction.Scheffler carded an even par 72 on moving day to remain at 5-under for the tournament. He will enter the final round seven shots behind McIlroy.While most may think that is too much ground to make up, Scheffler summed up his mindset with four words."Not nearly over yet," Scheffler said after his round."I can't control what anybody else is doing out there. I'll pay attention [to the leaderboard], but it's not going to change how I play the golf course ultimately."When asked if the World No. 1 needs to adjust his process, knowing he faces such a large deficit, Scheffler made his intentions very clear."I don't think so. I think what's most important for me out there is I'm trying to battle the golf course. I'm playing against myself and the golf course out there. I can't control what other people are doing."It doesn't matter to me who's on top of the leaderboard. I try to shoot the lowest score that I can shoot on a given day, and today apparently that was only even par."It will undoubtedly take much better than even par to have any chance at his third Green Jacket.There are really only a couple of golfers who appear to have any chance. Bryson DeChambeau closed with a flurry and is 10-under par. He will be paired with McIlroy in a rematch of the wild finish from the 2024 US Open.Corey Conners is four shots back at 8-under.
