Scottie Scheffler Calls Out 'Frustrating' Pace of Play Warning at BMW Championship
@Source: newsweek.com
Scottie Scheffler and Robert MacIntyre's group received a warning for delaying the pace of play during the third round of the BMW Championship. Event officials were very strict about the issue throughout the day, with several groups receiving similar warnings.Although the issue didn't escalate, it didn't sit well with the world No. 1. After his performance in the third round, Scheffler expressed confusion about the fact that they had sped up the pace and still not gained any time after being warned."It's frustrating," he told the reporters. "I didn't really feel like I did anything to put us behind on time. Bob and I got warned on No. 9, and I felt like we did some pretty good stuff on 9, 10 and 11 and we somehow didn't gain a single secon.d on pace of play. I'm not really sure how that's possible."It's worth remembering that Scheffler and MacIntyre started the round as the event leaders, so they were the last group of the day."It's just one of those things where all of a sudden now I'm punished for a rules decision I did not totally agree with," Scheffler said, "and then I can feel it gusting on 12, I can feel it gusting on 13, and there was nothing I can do about it; you've got to get up there and hit the shot. Overall I did what I could to keep us on pace, and hopefully we don't run into that situation tomorrow."The PGA Tour has been testing various measures for months to speed up the pace of play, such as the introduction of distance measurement devices (DMDs). Timing players is part of the rules, but it is not applied homogeneously in different tournaments and circumstances.Scheffler and MacIntyre managed to overcome this difficulty and post strong scores that kept them at the top of the leaderboard.The Scot carded three birdies and a bogey to increase his 54-hole score to 16-under and take a four-stroke lead over Scheffler. The Ridgewood, New Jersey, native, meanwhile, carded four birdies and a bogey during moving day.MacIntyre is looking for his first win of the season and third on the PGA Tour. Scheffler, meanwhile, has won four times this year and 17 times in his career on tour.More Golf: Phil Mickelson wades barefoot, chips out of trouble at Indianapolis
