Scottie Scheffler Points Out 'Dumb' Tendency of Some Fans at Golf Tournaments
@Source: newsweek.com
Robert MacIntyre continues to lead the BMW Championship, now four strokes ahead of Scottie Scheffler. This pairing generated some heated remarks from some fans during the round, which even prompted a reaction from MacIntyre.However, the matter didn't raise much eyebrows with Scheffler, who called the things some fans say on the course "dumb." The world No. 1 made them aware of the real effect such remarks have on a player."I heard some fairly choice words when I was leading the tournament in Ireland," Scheffler told the reporters after his third-round performance. "I think it's part of it. People have a tendency to say things that are dumb. I can think of a few things that were said to me in the final round in Ireland that were very far over the line. If you're a fan, it's only going to fire the guy up more, and I think just do your best to behave out there. It can be a little bit silly sometimes."The issue persisted throughout the round but escalated on the 14th hole, when MacIntyre sank a crucial seven-foot par putt and silenced the crowd by putting a finger to his lips. The fans had apparently been shouting unfriendly remarks at him.However, the Scotsman stated in a post-round interview that this didn't surprise him, considering where and with whom he was playing. He also said he expects the same for the final round, where he will again be paired with Scheffler."I totally expected it," he said. "I totally expected to be in this situation today when I'm in this position. It's going to be the exact same tomorrow."MacIntyre leads the BMW Championship with a score of 16-under, after a third round in which he carded a 68 with three birdies and a bogey. The Orban native had posted scores of 62 and 64 in the first two rounds.Scheffler, meanwhile, maintained his second-place position carding four birdies and a bogey on Saturday to take his 54-hole score to 12-under.More Golf: Scottie Scheffler shows his edge amid 'ridiculous' Ryder Cup questions
