Scottie Scheffler Slams Club Multiple Times in Rare TPC Southwind Outburst
@Source: newsweek.com
For Scottie Scheffler, consistency is everything. Whether it's his iron play, his top-10 streak, or his famously methodical routines, the World No. 1 rarely strays from his rhythm.Even after securing an $18 million bonus before teeing off at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, Scheffler arrived at TPC Southwind laser-focused on the playoffs.But on Friday, that focus cracked, just slightly.Scheffler carded a 4-under par, 66 in the second round, moving to 7-under overall and six shots behind leader Tommy Fleetwood. It was a solid score, but it came after four bogeys, each revealing flashes of frustration in the Memphis heat.The most visible moment, though, came at the par-4 10th hole, where Scheffler's approach landed in the right greenside bunker. His escape shot flew past the pin and settled on the fringe, 16 feet away from the hole.This fumed the World No. 1. As a result, he reportedly slammed his wedge multiple times into the sand, visibly irritated, before two-putting for bogey.The Dallas native bounced back immediately with a birdie at the par-3 11th, then added two more at Nos. 13 and 14.But the momentum didn't last. He bogeyed the 15th, birdied the 16th, and then bogeyed the 17th, where his frustration boiled over again.After a wayward tee shot on 17, Scheffler dropped his driver to the ground and nearly kicked it.His approach from the rough went left into more rough, prompting him to exclaim, "Can I get one lie that's just not the worst lie ever? Just one! Just one!" as seen on the video posted by NBC.This was not the first time Scheffler showcased his frustrated side on the course.Last year, at the BMW Championship, Scheffler overshot the green on the 10th hole at Castle Pines and as tweeted by @Skratch on X, he shouted, "How is that possible? How, how?" in disbelief. He finished T33 that week, but still advanced in the playoffs.Scheffler's temper has flared on other occasions, too.At the U.S. Open, he smashed a club into the turf after a poor round at Oakmont. And at the WM Phoenix Open, he knocked over his bag in frustration.Yet, despite these outbursts, Scheffler almost always rebounds. He won four titles before entering Memphis, including two majors. His top 10 finishes count 13 in 16 starts. No wonder he's fired up to maintain the momentum at TPC Southwind as well.More Golf: Jordan Spieth Reveals Ryder Cup Tension With Cheeky Keegan Bradley Comment
