Scottie Scheffler Unveils Arnold Palmer 'Bonus' with The PLAYERS on Tap
@Source: newsweek.com
Scottie Scheffler failed to defend his title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but that didn't stop him from calling the week a positive one. The World No. 1 finished in a share of 11th place at Bay Hill with a 4-under 284."Decent," he said about his performance. "I did some good stuff out there."Speaking briefly to the press at the end of the final round, Scheffler said he was pleased to have regained some of the quality of his driving. He touched on a surprising positive while also said that the main challenge of the event had been the greens, which were exceptionally difficult."I started to drive it a little bit better this week, so that was a bonus," Scheffler told the media. "I didn't hole too many putts, it was really challenging out there on these greens. I mean, putting on a surface that's practically dead, the ball can have a life of its own. I'm proud of hitting a lot of good putts, just wasn't my week on the greens."Scheffler had four scores of par or better at Bay Hill, but did not shoot a round in the 60s. His best day came on Sunday, when he carded three birdies and a bogey for a 2-under 70.The 28-year-old's performance so far this season includes top-25 finishes in the four tournaments he has played. He has two top-10 finishes, with a tie for third at the Genesis Invitational as his best of the year to date.Scheffler will arrive at TPC Sawgrass next week with the same goal in mind - to defend his PLAYERS Championship title. The World No. 1 could become just the second player to win the PGA Tour's flagship event three times (Jack Nicklaus 1974, 1976, 1978), and if that's not enough, he could do it in a row.The potential feat, however, is not on Scheffler's mind. His goal, he said, is to find the right approach to play the event."Yeah, well, I'm not going to be thinking about that too much next week, just go in there with the right mindset," he said. "We'll head up there tonight and hopefully get some practice in tomorrow when the rain stops, and then get ready for the week."The Arnold Palmer Invitational was only Scottie Scheffler's fourth start of the 2025 season. The two-time Masters champion missed the first month due to a hand injury that landed him in the operating room.In 2024, Scheffler had the best season of the last 10 years on the PGA Tour, winning seven times, including a major championship. Add to that that he also won the gold medal at the Olympic Games and the unofficial Hero World Challenge.More Golf: Xander Schauffele Gets Real on His Play With The PLAYERS on Horizon
