MWOS lost ground at Gibbo Stadium yesterday after being held to 2-2 draw by hosts Triangle United.
The draw came on a day rivals Scottland and Simba Bhora collected full points against Kwekwe United and Highlanders, respectively.
The results mean MWOS’ lead at the top has been cut by two points, with yesterday’s point taking them to 31 points, while Simba Bhora’s 3-2 win over Highlanders took them to 29.
Scottland, who are on 26 points after edging Kwekwe United 1-0, have the luxury of a game before the PSL disciplinary committee.
At Gibbo, twice Triangle came from behind to hold log leaders MWOS, who are unbeaten this season in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
And MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa was left frustrated.
“We were a bit careless in defence today but I liked the fighting spirit from the boys. It was not one of our best performances but coming here and getting a draw, I can only appreciate the work done by the youngsters and we go back to the drawing board as we prepare for our next fixture against CAPS United,” said MWOS head coach Lloyd Mutasa.
The home side was a better team in the opening period and could have taken an early lead inside quarter of an hour but despite some good exchanges, Witness Shave and Menford Mudzimu took turns to miss the target from close range.
The visitors finally settled and capitalised from the only chance they created in the first half. Triangle defence were caught napping as Innocent Zambezi’s diagonal pass was controlled and converted with precision by Nigel Matinha as Carlos Musimwa failed to close him down.
Triangle forward Aaron Zeka could have levelled just two minutes after Mwos goal but his effort from a difficult angle hit the side netting with the home fans on the edge.
Triangle continued to pile the pressure and eventually got a goal that was evading them for the past three games.
In the referee’s first-half optional time, captain Thabani Kamusoko’s free-kick was met by Shave who showed some tenacity to score as the teams went to the half-time breather level.
MWOS were the first to react from half-time talk as Mathew Murambiwa scored just two minutes into the second half as they took the lead for the second time in the match.
For the first time this season, Mwos have allowed a team to draw level after taking the lead and Triangle did it twice man of the match Tawanda Denzel Chatuluka danced his way past the Mwos defence before shooting straight at Martin Mapisa.
The Warriors goalkeeper could only help the ball into his own net as their defence was breached for the second time just after the hour mark.
After their second goal, Triangle grew in confidence as they dominated the log leaders and with a bit of luck could have taken the lead in the 85th minute, but Kamusoko’s goalbound effort was deflected for a corner as the teams settled for a share of spoils.
Triangle coach Genesis Mangombe was happy with the way his team played especially after a week of good preparation during the international window.
“I am happy with the way the boys played, they played according to our plan. What we don’t like is the way we conceded the goals but it’s a game of football and our focus is on our next assignment to Kwekwe. The international break was good for us because we had enough time to correct some of the mistakes as well as trying new things and it worked today but it’s two points dropped today,” said Mangombe.
