The Lower Great Southern Bowling League’s home and away men’s pennant season has concluded with reigning first division pennant holders Emu Point Red again finishing on top of the ladder.
Emu Point Red defended their title despite an away upset round 14 loss to Mt Barker Gold Red 5 (64) to 1 (51).
Middleton Beach Gold defeated Denmark 5 (78) to 1 (56) as Albany Gold easily accounted for Middleton Beach Black 6 (81) to 0 (44).
Middleton Beach Green beat Emu Point Purple 5 (62) to 1 (48), a result that means Purple are demoted to second division for next season.
Emu Point Red will now host the first division finals, and attempt to match the feat of the Middleton Beach Gold side of the mid 2010’s by winning five pennants in a row.
They will come up against Middleton Beach Gold in the second semifinal whilst Albany Gold will face off against Denmark in a knockout semi.
Second division ladder leaders Albany Green have ended a two-year first division absence by achieving promotion for next year, following a commanding 6 (72) to 0 (53) victory over Middleton Beach White as Albany Brown ended a difficult season for Cranbrook with a 6 (99) to 0 (37) thrashing.
This defeat confirms Cranbrook’s relegation to third division.
Mt Barker have jumped into second place on the ladder after demolishing Albany Grey 6 (83) to 0 (31) as Mt Barker Golf White defeated Emu Point White in the final game 5 (57) to 1 (54).
This result could prove to be costly for Emu Point White as Mt Barker now have the valuable double chance in the finals.
Albany Green will begin with the home green advantage as they host the second division finals, where they come up against Mt Barker in the major semi while Emu Point White and Albany Brown will meet in the elimination final.
Walpole have finished on top of the ladder in third division after a strong home win over Mt Barker 5.5 (62) to 0.5 (41) as second placed Denmark were on the receiving end of a massive upset by Green Range 6 (68) to 0 (45).
Emu Point Blue crushed Albany White 6 (89) to 0 (35) while Mt Barker Golf Blue won 6 (71) to 0 (54) against Middleton Beach Lime.
Walpole will return to second division for next season with Denmark finishing only three points behind in second spot.
All pennant finals will be played over March 29 and 30.
