Second Lady Usha Vance unwittingly reveals very surprising book on shelf of her home

Usha Vance has unwittingly revealed that she may be a fan of former Democratic vice-president Al Gore and his climate change warnings. The second lady, 39, displayed one of Gore's books, Earth in the Balance, in the background of a video where she announced an upcoming visit to Greenland. The video, posted on the SLOTUS Instagram account, featured a mostly empty background except for a small figurine and the 1992 title, where Gore issued an early warning of the 'grave danger' presented by climate change. Gore famously made global warming a focus of his time at the Bill Clinton White House in the 1990s. It's a notable title for the second lady to own, given Gore's views of climate change are directly opposed to those of the GOP and the Trump administration, which prioritizes energy production over environmental concerns. Usha Vance has remained tight-lipped about her personal views, but she was a registered Democrat until 2014 - the same year she married the vice-president. Her mother Lakshmi Chilukuri is a DEI advocate at the University of California San Diego. But Vance says he loves his mom-in-law regardless and doesn't mind that their political views diverge. While at Yale, a campus magazine described her as 'of the leftish political persuasion,' as noted by Business Insider. However, the magazine added she went for partners who are 'tall, handsome, and conservative.' In the video, Usha Vance said she is leading a US delegation to Greenland on Thursday. The trip comes amid a continued effort from President Donald Trump to purchase the arctic territory from Denmark. In a quick video, Vance said she hopes the U.S.-Greenland relationship 'will only grow stronger' in the future. Those officials joining her on the trek include National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright, who are both expected to tour a military base in Greenland during their visit. Vance, meanwhile, will be bringing her son to the Avannaata Qimussersu dog sled race during their weekend in Greenland. The second lady also disclosed that the U.S. is a sponsor of the race where 444 dogs and 37 mushers will compete. The official trip without husband and Vice President J.D. Vance follows her solo trip to Italy earlier this month, when she led the U.S. delegation to the Special Olympics World Winter Games. The Greenland visit also comes after the president's eldest son Donald Trump Jr. flew to the capital city of Nuuk to drum up support for his father's offer to buy the autonomous island territory from Denmark. Vance said in her video on the trip that besides the race, she is also 'coming to celebrate the long history of mutual respect and cooperation between our nations, and to express hope that our relationship will only grow stronger in the coming years.' 'I look forward to meeting many of you soon and to learning from you about your beautiful land, culture and traditions,' she concluded. The White House statement on the trip also highlights the relationship, stating: 'Ms. Vance and the delegation are excited to witness this monumental race and celebrate Greenlandic culture and unity.
