Adam Sandler takes a swing at a sequel in the trailer for “Happy Gilmore 2.”
Sandler, 58, filmed the eagerly anticipated follow-up to his 1996 hit golf comedy “Happy Gilmore” all across New Jersey this past fall.
The Netflix movie filmed at Jersey golf courses and country clubs including Fiddler’s Elbow in Bedminster and other spots in many other cities and towns, including but not limited to Kearny, Newark, Clifton, West Orange, South Orange and Middletown.
The trailer starts with Happy Gilmore surveying the busts of golfing greats, including himself — and he’s not happy with the likeness.
“Spongebob?!?” he says. “What is that? What’s with the beaver teeth?”
“Happy Gilmore 2," due out July 25, was directed by Kyle Newacheck (Sandler’s 2019 film “Murder Mystery”) and written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy, who wrote the first “Happy Gilmore.”

Julie Bowen returns as Virginia Venit, Happy’s love; Christopher McDonald reprises his role as Happy’s nemesis, golfer Shooter McGavin; and Ben Stiller is back as Hal L., the terrible mustachioed orderly from the first film.
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, aka music superstar Bad Bunny, plays Busboy in the movie. Other additions to the cast include actor-director Benny Safdie, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Margaret Qualley and frequent Sandler movie actor Nick Swardson (”Leo,” “Sandy Wexler,” “Pixels,” “Grown Ups 2,” “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan,” “I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry”).
“Happy Gilmore 2" also features a cameo from Eminem as well as appearances from a series of professional golfers.
In the film, Happy is returning to the green after quite some time.
“I haven’t swung a club in years,” he says in the trailer.
The production held an open casting call in August for New Jersey residents interested in becoming extras in the film.

Netflix released the first teaser for “Happy Gilmore 2" in December, not long after the movie wrapped in Jersey.
The first “Happy Gilmore,” filmed in Canada, became one of the key movies of Sandler’s early movie career, grossing more than $41 million worldwide on a $12 million budget.
