Seize COSAFA Cup opportunity: Nakamba’s advice resonates as Ngwenya nears move to South Africa

HARARE – Zimbabwe senior national team captain Marvelous Nakamba’s call for young players to “seize the COSAFA Cup opportunity” appears to have struck a chord, particularly with FC Platinum forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya. Nakamba offered the motivational advice during the COSAFA Cup squad announcement at the ZIFA offices in Harare at the end of May. “COSAFA offers a unique opportunity for one to establish themselves. I started playing junior tournaments at the age of 15 and by the time I graduated to the senior team, I was ready for it,” he said. “This is a chance for these youngsters to raise their hands and market themselves. I hope they take it with both hands.” Barely a month later, Ngwenya is now on the verge of signing with South African Betway Premiership side AmaZulu. Nehanda Radio has learnt the 22-year-old is set to put pen to paper signing a three-year deal with Usuthu. If the move is finalised, Ngwenya will become the latest Zimbabwean player to join the South African Premiership from the local Premier Soccer League. The move will end a five-year drought, with the last such transfer occurring before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.
