@Source: newsweek.com
Shane Lowry is known on the PGA Tour for his exceptional short game. That was on full display Friday at the Cognizant Classic, making back-to-back chip-ins.The Irishman carded a 3-under 68 to sit at 8-under par entering the weekend. As of this writing, that is four shots off the lead.Lowry started his day on the back nine, and made the turn at even par after a bogey and birdie.He picked up some momentum at the par-5 3rd before giving a lesson on chipping.The first chip-in came at the par-4 6th. Lowry had 41 yards from the hole. He needed to check the ball on the upslope, but have enough pace to carry it down the hill. All that while dealing with the fringe a couple of feet from the landing zone.It was truly a remarkable chip and one the announcers celebrated."Birdie for Lowry from nowhere... just a master class today."It was the second one on the par-3 7th where he celebrated with Minn Woo Lee's signature move, the phone symbol. The former Open champion had a little over 48 feet for birdie. He hit a high flop shot that bounced twice and fell into the hole.Those two birdies helped him get to 3-under and to stay in contention."I was mentally very good. I played the game very well. I got my way around the course well," Lowry said after his round. "Yes, I didn't hit the ball as well as I would have liked, but I think 8-under for two rounds around here is pretty good, even though the leaders or leader is a decent ways ahead."After his round, Lowry also reposted the video to his X account."Showing the junior doctor how it's done today," Lowry wrote. He also tagged Lee in the post.Those two chip-ins were massive for his round. Lowry closed the day with two pars, but still within reach of a strong finish."There's a lot of golf to play this weekend," he said. "I've seen this morning the course is firming up, and it will firm up as the week goes on, and it won't be as easy. I'm very happy with the position I'm in," he said.Lowry looks to earn his second top-10 finish on the season after being runner-up to his best friend Rory McIlroy at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.More Golf: Jordan Spieth in the Hunt, 'Readjusts' Cognizant Classic Expectations
