Sha'Carri Richardson wrote a heartfelt note note on her mum's fourth year remembrance.
Sprint queen Sha'Carri Richardson penned a heartfelt tribute to her mum four years after her passing.
The reigning world 100m champion wrote an emotional note on her Instagram and X pages in remembrance of her mum's death.
"4 years since my mother transitioned from this physical world, I am grateful for a mother that made decisions for me to become the young lady I am today!," she wrote.
Richardson also released balloons in the air, carrying the message "I love you."
Four years ago, while competing at the US Olympic trials, Richardson was faced with the harsh news of the death of her biological mother.
As a coping mechanism, she resulted to cannabis use which is a banned substance under the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Despite winning the 100m event in 10.77s to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, Richardson was handed a one-month suspension, making her ineligible to compete in the 100m in Tokyo due to the suspension ending on July 27, 2021. She could have been eligible for the women's 4x100m relay scheduled for August 5, 2021. Sadly, she was not selected, thereby, missing the Olympics entirely.
This period was the most challenging in Richardson's career. However, she has since bounced back to win the 2023 world title in Budapest, and marking her Olympic debut in Paris last summer, she blazed to the 100m silver medal as well as anchored Team USA to the 4x100m gold in astonishing fashion.
