A Bengal cricketer named Priyajit Ghosh, aged 22, shockingly died during a gym session. The youngster aspired to play for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy and for Team India at the international level. India Today has reported that he died on Friday (August 1) morning. He fell ill during the workout and died due to a heart attack, the report adds. Priyajit lived in Bolpur in Birbhum district. Priyajit has played inter-district cricket. He finished as the highest run-scorer in the U-16 inter-district tournament organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal. Priyajit's untimely death has left the cricketing fraternity in a state of shock as the sport lost one of its talented batsmen. In June this year, a batsman succumbed to a heart attack after hitting a six. The match was being played in Punjab. His teammates tried to attempt CVR but the batsman couldn't be saved. Earlier this week, a 26-year-old died while playing badminton. He collapsed while playing a doubles match. He was taken to a nearby hospital but the efforts to save him went in vain. He didn't have any prior health issues. The number of deaths due to sudden heart attacks is on the rise in India and it has left many concerned. "Intense activities tend to increase one’s heart rate and oxygen demand, pressurising the heart and causing a sudden cardiac arrest or a heart attack. It is better to avoid doing any intense activities,” Dr. Bipeenchandra Bhamre, a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, told Times Now in April.
