Shoplifter and off-duty officer tumble to the ground during incident at Walmart: South Euclid Police Blotter

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio Theft: Warrensville Center Road A Cleveland woman, 44, was arrested at Walmart May 6 after a theft of dog food and laundry detergent. She engaged in a brief struggle with an off-duty officer when she pushed past him but was detained in the parking lot. Both fell to the ground during the altercation but neither wanted medical assistance. The woman was cited for theft and issued a lifetime ban from all Walmart owned properties. She was also charged with obstructing official business. Impaired driving: Mayfield Road A Cleveland Heights man, 43, was arrested for OVI after his vehicle was stopped at the Warrensville Center Road intersection for multiple moving violations at 12:44 a.m. May 10. He was also charged with having a weapon while intoxicated. Theft: Mayfield Road Giant Eagle management reported May 11 that a shoplifter had fled from the store. Officers stopped the woman’s vehicle in the area and cited her for theft and gave her a trespass warning. Fraud: Wilmington Road A resident reported May 6 that she learned her debit card had been used fraudulently to make a $122 payment to Cricket Wireless. Her bank asked her to file police report before investigating. Recovered stolen vehicle: Mayfield Road Plate-reading cameras alerted officers to a stolen car traveling through the city May 6. Officers found it in the Clean Express parking lot and occupied by a Cleveland man, 25, and woman, 22. The woman was listed as the suspect in the unauthorized use of a vehicle report. She explained that she bought the car months ago but could not register it in her name because she had a warrant block. Instead, she said that it had been registered in her sister’s name and they had since been arguing about it. Officers contacted the sister, who told a similar story and said she reported it stolen because her sister was taking too long to get the car out of her name. She did not intend to get her sister in trouble. The car was subsequently towed, and the woman was only cited for driving under suspension. Theft: Warrensville Center Road A shoplifter left Walmart May 9 with $389 worth of merchandise despite a loss prevention worker trying to stop her. She abandoned most of the stolen items but was located by responding officers. The Cleveland woman, 64, was subsequently cited for the theft of the 38 items.
