The TGL playoffs are set. Shockingly, of the six teams in the league, the only two that will miss out of the playoffs are captained by the league's founders: Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.But unlike Woods, McIlroy is taking heat after his team was eliminated from playoff contention on Monday night.Boston Common Golf lost to the New York Golf Club, 10-6. The match was much closer than the score indicated, though. Rory's squad held a lead multiple times, but some untimely poor shots and even poorer execution proved costly.That was on full display during the middle of Monday's match.The four-time major champion missed a crucial gimme, prompting an epic troll job from NYGC's social media team."Didn't know we were playing Pinehurst," the post read on X, formerly Twitter.The caption is of course referencing McIlroy's brutal missed putt during last year's U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.McIlroy was attempting to snap his decade-long drought without a major title. He and Bryson DeChambeau went back and forth during the final round with the trophy up for grabs.Holding a one-shot lead on 16, the Northern Irishman remarkably missed a par putt from two feet six inches away. The missed putt will live in U.S. Open infamy, unfortunately for McIlroy.It was his first miss on the greens inside five feet all tournament. Sadly, it happened again on 18 when Rory missed another par putt from just under four feet.DeChambeau went on to win his second U.S. Open title as McIlroy's drought continues.Obviously, the putt on Monday night did not mean nearly as much. Nevertheless, it opened up the can of ridicule. It is a bit surprising to see such a bold statement from one of the other teams, though.The TGL was created to provide a different form of golf; one more inviting to younger fans. They also want to bring fans closer to the action, allowing the players to be mic'd throughout.That opens up heckling from one player to another to be heard around the world.
