Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi took the world by storm with his quickest century for an Indian in the ongoing season of the IPL, as he mesmerised the cricket-loving nation with his array of swashbuckling strokes, captivating one and all in the process. Players, pundits and fans alike have expressed their admiration for the 14-year-old batter’s feat and World Cup-winning former Indian seamer Madan Lal chimed in with high praise for the Bihar-born youngster. Lal also had a word of advice for the teenager, urging the young batter to remain focused in terms of maintaining his discipline in order to fully actualise his enormous potential. “He’s very talented. But talent alone doesn’t guarantee success,” Lal began. “He needs to be focused, disciplined, and keep working hard. If his process is right, I believe he can achieve amazing heights,” the 74-year-old said. As the magnitude of a once-in-a-lifetime innings settles in, Lal went on to add that the 14-year-old has all the makings of a star. “I’ve never seen a kid like this. When I was captain of the Delhi team, Sachin Tendulkar played against us at a very young age and scored around 80 runs in the Ranji Trophy semifinal. “Then came Virat Kohli, who is still playing. And now, everyone is talking about Suryavanshi. He has all the makings of a superstar,” he said. Lal bellowed that Suryavanshi’s is the recipient of “God-given talent, but it’s up to you how you work on it. Your sincerity, discipline, and upbringing — these matter a lot. Family support is important too. When your parents are disciplined and supportive, that gives you added motivation.” The pacer also opined that honing his skills on the domestic circuit would no doubt bolster the cricketing acumen of the youngster, through experience. “Playing in different conditions against various opponents helps you grow,” he concluded.
