Through the Gulf Provincial Rugby League board, Gulf Governor Sir Chris Haiveta has a vision to develop rugby league in the province.

In a recent meeting between Gulf Provincial Rugby League board chairman Jacob Ivaroa, Gideon Kouoru (West Kerema), Henry Miro (East Kerema) and Gulf Governor’s officer and sports coordinator Eugene Kose introduced pathway development program this year.
Kose said this is Haiveta’s vision to focus and target on talent identication in the province. He said through the Governor’s office we have affiliated eight leagues and all players registration to PNG Rugby Football League to benefit from training programs and development from the national body.
“These local leagues Kerema, Kikori, Siouposa, Mailovera, Toaripi, Ihu West and Tei Kariko including Kerema schools will be identified by Kouoru and Miro to link up with Port Moresby Bige Petroleum Gulf West.
“We will select the best 16 players from these leagues to play for Gulf West as the feeder to Gulf Isou as per Haiveta’s vision.
He said this is the only way for our local potential talents to earn an opportunity to link up with Isou.
“This is our players opportunity to be identified by the Isou management part of the franchise in future” the sports coordinator said.
Kose said there are a lot of potential talents that needs to be identified and trained for the next level.
“This will not be easy as we have to adjust ourselves to encourage fair play on and off the field of play” Kose said.
He said that the players should change their attitudes and mindsets and focus on training commitments.
“We need to discipline ourselves, promote and encourage on and off the field to be better players.
He said we are fortunate that our good governor is supporting us with players and in return we should dedicate and commit ourselves in our games and training as fitness playing body contact sport like rugby league.
Kose said this is the directive from Haiveta for Gulf Provincial Rugby League board with continuous funding support. He added that training courses for coaches and referees will be conducted in the province this
Kose is proud of the direction and advice from Gulf Provincial Rugby League board chairman Jacob Ivaroa who is also the Southern Confederation director in PNGRFL actively committed to development programs in the province.
He also encouraged former Gulf Isapea and Isou players to be involved in their respective local leagues to impart their knowledge to proper training to the local raw materials.
