KARIMNAGAR: Sircilla, renowned for its rich handloom traditions, has once again made headlines thanks to the exceptional craftsmanship of Nalla Vijay Kumar, a prominent weaver and recipient of the 'Chenetha Kala Ratna Award.' He has woven a shawl made of 24-carat gold that can fit into a matchbox, showcasing his mastery of the craft in Rajanna Sircilla district.Vijay Kumar stated that the shawl measures two metres in length and 38 inches in width and is a symbolic tribute titled Operation Sindoor. It honours the strength of India’s armed forces and pays homage to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.Expressing grief over recent attacks on women and mothers, Vijay Kumar praised the government’s firm response to terrorism. He plans to send the unique creation to Prime Minister Modi in August, marking National Handloom Day.Notably, Vijay Kumar is continuing the legacy of his late father, Nalla Paramdhamulu, who gained fame for weaving a silk saree that could fit into a matchbox. Among his father’s other remarkable achievements were weaving a 112-metre-long national flag for the Olympics and creating stitch-less garments.Following in his father’s footsteps, Vijay Kumar has crafted several innovative handloom products, including sarees that can pass through the eye of a needle and others woven with silver and gold threads. His contributions have helped bring renewed national recognition to Sircilla’s weaving heritage.
