Many skilled Fijian construction workers with experience abroad are returning to Fiji to help build Vatu Talei – The Jewel, a luxurious resort set to open in late 2026. The $230 million project on Denarau Island in Nadi is creating over 450 jobs and allowing former Fijians to apply their skills in building a world-class destination. Nearly 200 workers are on-site daily, contributing to the resort’s progress. Director of Construction Managers Global, Stewart Lovelock, highlighted the importance of returning these workers to Fiji. “Many of these workers have gained their skills overseas, and now they are bringing that knowledge back to Fiji, contributing to a project that will have a lasting impact on the tourism industry and the local economy,” he said. The Vatu Talei: The Jewel resort, a partnership between BSP Life and Fiji Airways through Richmond Pte Limited, will span nearly 10 acres and feature top-tier facilities, including the region’s largest pool, a biophilic atrium, and hanging gardens. Guests will also experience cultural education, innovative dining, and a unique water-themed experience. Investment Fiji CEO Kamal Chetty noted that the return of experienced workers strengthens the local workforce and contributes to Fiji’s tourism sector growth. “This project offers tremendous potential to stimulate the local economy through job creation, skills transfer, and the development of supporting industries,” Chetty said. “We look forward to the continued positive impact of such projects on Fiji’s economy and the opportunities they create for our people,” he added.
