UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Before he was starring as Domingo alongside Ariana Grande, Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter in a series of viral sketches on “Saturday Night Live,” Marcello Hernandez was an aspiring comedian at John Carroll University.
Now, the 27-year-old Miami native is giving back to his alma mater in a big way.
Hernandez has established a new scholarship fund aimed at supporting a JCU senior pursuing a career in comedy, entertainment or content creation. The Bo & Tom - Marcello A. Hernandez ’19 Scholarship will provide financial support and include personal mentorship from the SNL cast member himself.
Named in honor of English professors Bo Smith and Tom Roche, the scholarship recognizes two faculty members who Hernandez credits with helping him hone his acting skills and develop his business mindset, according to a university press release.
“I had a lot of great professors at John Carroll, and Bo and Tom were an amazing tandem that made a huge impact on my career,” Hernandez said. “I am eternally grateful for their guidance and mentorship, and I am so proud to create this fund in their names so that their collective legacy lives on for generations.”
Hernandez played one year on the Blue Streaks soccer team before turning his focus to comedy. He performed in clubs across Northeast Ohio and built a large following on TikTok while he was still in school.
The 2019 graduate joined the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in 2022 and is currently in his third season on the iconic NBC late-night comedy show.
