SNP ‘risking UK national security’ with ‘blunders’ over Donald Trump & Putin

SNP chiefs’ foreign policy “blunders” could put national security at risk, Downing Street sources have warned.
John Swinney and Stephen Flynn were accused of playing into tyrant Vladimir Putin’s hands by blasting No10 over the US-Ukraine crisis.
It follows Donald Trump’s fall-out with Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House.
Mr Swinney insisted the “disturbing” clash last month made the US leader’s UK state visit “unthinkable”.
And Nats’ Commons leader Mr Flynn slammed Sir Keir Starmer “weak” response to the tensions.
No10 insiders insisted the pair had slipped up by showing the UK as divided.
A source said: “There are real concerns Mr Swinney and Mr Flynn are blundering on foreign policy by seeking to politicise issues around the US President and the Ukraine war.”
There were also fears that the First Minister risked a “devastating” trade war by upsetting the US.
Downing Street sources told how Mr Trump “keeps a close eye” on interventions from Scots politicians due to his family’s roots and golf resorts here.
Mr Swinney previously backed his Democratic presidential rival Kamala Harris.
Tory Shadow Scottish Secretary Andrew Bowie said: “Given the need to protect our security in this uncertain world, nationalist politicians should be much more mindful before offering their opinions.”
A Scottish Government spokesman declined to comment.
But they told how the SNP leader had held talks with Labour Foreign Secretary David Lammy on international issues.
