South Africa Wants WTC Final-Bound Stars Playing In IPL To Return By May 26

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday named their squad for the next month’s ICC World Test Championship final against South Africa. Eight of those in their squad have a contract with the IPL 2025 which has been extended by a few days after being suspended due to the India-Pakistan conflict. CSA now wants them back by May 26 as per the original agreement. The IPL 2025 was to end on May 25 but with the schedule being revised on account of a one-week suspension, the season will now finish on June 3 when the final will be played. South Africa have a warmup match planned against Zimbabwe from June 3-6 before they face Australia in the title clash slated to get underway on June 11 at Lord’s. “The initial agreement with the IPL and the BCCI was with the final being on the (May) 25th, our players would return on the 26th so that it allows them ample time before we fly out on the 30th. Nothing has changed from our perspective,” South Africa coach Shukri Conrad said on Tuesday. “That is the ongoing conversations that are being had between people in a higher pay grade than I am, i.e. the Director of Cricket (Enoch Nkwe) and Pholetsi Moseki (CSA CEO), so they’re dealing with that. But as it stands, we’re not budging on that, I don’t think. We want our players back on the 26th, and hopefully that comes to fruition,” he added. Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Lungi Ngidi (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch (both Mumbai Indians), Wiaan Mulder (Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals) are part of South Africa’s WTC final squad. Of these, only Wiaan Mulder will be available on time since SRH are out of playoffs contention and play their final league match on May 25. The rest of the players are key to their respective franchise’s qualification hopes. “We are still in discussions with IPL & BCCI,” CSA director of cricket Enoch Nkwe told Cricbuzz.
