Spain have secured a place in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final after a dramatic 1–0 extra-time victory over Germany in Basel. The deadlock was finally broken in the 113th minute when Aitana Bonmatí, a two-time Ballon d’Or winner, scored a superb late goal to seal Spain’s first-ever win over Germany in a major women’s tournament.
The match saw both teams press hard for a breakthrough, with amazing saves from Spanish goalkeeper Cata Coll and Germany’s Ann-Katrin Berger. But it was Bonmatí, who also helped Spain to World Cup victory in 2023, who made the difference, claiming a loose ball to fire right under the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the net. Spain’s dominance in possession and composure under pressure proved key against a historically strong German side. The win is another milestone in a golden era for Spanish women’s football.
Spain will now face England in the final on Sunday 27 July at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, following the Lionesses 2–1 semi-final victory over France. The match promises to be an exciting clash between two of Europe’s most technically gifted teams, with England looking to defend their title and Spain aiming for their first.
