Dasun Shanaka, the former Sri Lanka cricket team captain, is facing an investigation by the nation's cricket board. The investigation was launched after Shanaka left a pivotal domestic match in the middle to play an ILT20 game. Reportedly, he did so without informing the cricket board or his club, Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC). Here's more on the same. Shanaka was playing for the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, when he was called back by his domestic team, SSC. The team was on the brink of getting eliminated in Sri Lanka's three-day competition and needed Shanaka for their match against Moors Sports Club. After competing for Dubai Capitals on January 28, the Lankan all-rounder Shanaka returned to represent SSC in Colombo. Shanaka walked in to bat at a crucial juncture on, with SSC reeling at 77/5. He scored a phenomenal 123(87), keeping his side in the hunt despite a first-innings deficit of 137 runs. However, on Day 3, the medical staff advised Shanaka rest after a delivery struck him while batting. He was officially ruled out of the game with concussion. Hours after SSC managed a draw in Colombo, Shanaka was spotted batting for the Dubai Capitals in ILT20, scoring 34 runs off 12 balls. This raised questions about the authenticity of his injury. Samantha Dodanwela, chairman of the SSC Cricket House Committee and SLC Tournament committee, was surprised at Shanaka's departure saying they were unaware he had left for Dubai. Meanwhile, Ashley de Silva, the CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, has confirmed an investigation will be launched into Shanaka's actions. He called the incident unacceptable. Despite the controversy, Shanaka played three more matches for Dubai Capitals and even scored a 10-ball 21 in the tournament final, which his team won by four wickets.
