Srinagar: While fresh ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops were reported from multiple sectors of both Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), massive explosions rocked Srinagar again on Saturday evening amid several drones hovering in the skies, creating a terrifying atmosphere in the Kashmiri capital. This came hours after India and Pakistan agreed to “full and immediate ceasefire”. Chief Minister. Omar Abdullah, took to ‘X’ to say, “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!” In another post, he said, “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up.”It was not immediately known if the explosions were caused by the drones dropping bombs or interception events. The explosions which were followed by warning sirens and a blackout caused panic among the residents, many of whom were seen running towards perceived safer locations.Soon, officials informed that the blast booms were caused primarily due to the air defence guns and other weapons by the security forces in their attempt to engage the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) sent for Pakistan. Reports of similar activity and interventions by the security forces are pouring in from some other parts of the Kashmir Valley and Jammu areas. Around the same time, fresh ceasefire violations were reported from multiple locations along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) with the Pakistani troops firing small arms towards the Indian forward positions and towards unmanned hills and open fields. The Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) are responding proportionately, the officials said. The cross-border firing took place in Akhnoor and Rajouri sectors of the LoC and RS Pura and Palanwalla sectors of the IB, the reports said. A security official who spoke with this newspaper on condition of anonymity said that it will take some time to implement the ceasefire on ground. "As of now, only intermittent firing by small arms is taking place," he said.Earlier at the end of the daybreak, three huge explosions were heard in Srinagar. During a morning walk, this correspondent saw smoke billowing from shrubs in Srinagar's Zabarwan hills after a huge blast. Soon a missile-like object landed deep inside the Dal Lake, Srinagar’s major tourist attraction. No casualties were reported in the drone strikes in Srinagar.Officials said a drone was shot down by the air-defence system at Srinagar’s old airfield. Two more blasts rocked the city around 11:45 am.The residents of Lasjin, a city suburb, said that a projectile landed in the house compound of one Ghulam Mohiuddin Bhat without causing any damage. As heavy engagement went off in the Srinagar skies, the defence authorities activated surface to air missile systems, the officials said. The residents of Jammu’s Rehari Colony were woken by an earth-shaking blast caused by a drone attack. A residential house took brunt of the strike while several other houses and cars parked were damaged. The side street was strewn with bricks and concrete of the house pulled off the worst hit house in the impact of the blast. Another blast caused possibly by a substance delivered by a drone took place close to a Hindu temple in nearby Roop Nagar area. Both these places were visited by the Chief Minister Mr. Abdullah later during the day to assess the damage. He said, “The pain and disruption faced by residents is deeply concerning. We stand with every affected family and will ensure all necessary support is provided without delay.” The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s “unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of its citizens amidst ongoing hostilities (between India and Pakistan)”.In the garrison town of Udhampur, damage was caused to a security installation, reports said. Rest of the day, the city and its neighbourhood remained calm.
