St Johnstone fans back Celtic ultras as diehards call out their own club over 'restrictions'
@Source: dailyrecord.co.uk
St Johnstone ultras have urged their club to lift restrictions they claim have been imposed on Celtic fan groups ahead of Sunday's showdown at McDiarmid Park. More than 7,000 Hoops supporters are set to make the journey through to Perth this weekend after being handed THREE stands by Saints chiefs. But Fair City Unity have released a statement suggesting that St Johnstone have imposed certain restrictions on the green-and-white faithful's "active support groups" that should be "reconsidered". A message posted on social media by the Saints diehards reads: "Fair City Unity welcomes and encourages all active support groups to McDiarmid Park on the provision that reciprocal agreements are in place for reverse fixtures. "Following the pre-match operation meeting today, we have been notified that restrictions have been put in place against the active fan groups of Celtic FC, therefore we ask that St Johnstone FC reconsider their decision. "With Celtic FC accommodating this season for the active support groups within St Johnstone FC to attend matches at Celtic Park with banners, flags and drums permitted. "We ask St Johnstone FC that the agreement is reciprocated and the active support groups of Celtic FC are granted the same permissions on Sunday. "FCU remain unwavering in their stance for St Johnstone FC to deny permission when hosting those clubs who refuse our support the opportunity to enhance the atmosphere both 'vocally and visually' at away fixtures. "FCU request that all match day operation agreements are outlined prior to the start of next season by all clubs whom we share a division with. Embrace fan culture." Guidelines posted on Celtic's official website for travelling fans state that drums, flags, megaphones and banner frames will be permitted in the stadium. Record Sport has approached St Johnstone for comment. A win for Brendan Rodgers' runaway league leaders would move them within six points of being crowned four-in-a-row champions. But a victory for the hosts would be priceless as Simo Valakari attempts to lift St Johnstone off bottom spot in their fight for top-flight survival.
