A range of events at The St Lawrence Academy in Scunthorpe encouraged students to achieve 60 active minutes a day to celebrate National Schools Sports Week.
They travelled to Quibell Park Stadium to participate in its annual sports day. Students also took part in the Adam Simms Memorial Cup, visited the Pods to participate in a carousel of fitness activities, enjoyed coaching sessions from Scunthorpe Alpha American Football Team, had a 60 second skipping challenge promoted by Mo Farah and experienced alternative sports in lessons, such as football-golf, tug-of-war, an assault course and ultimate frisbee.
In addition, Scunthorpe United FC representatives visited and students were able to celebrate its promotion and have photographs taken with the National League North Trophy. The week is organised by the Youth Sport Trust and celebrated by schools, teachers and parents, supported by Sports Direct and Under Armour.
This year’s Always Active Programme aimed to support students to achieve 60 minutes a day of PE, sport and play through PE lessons, sports days and extra-curricular opportunities.
