Stacey Flood emphasizes Ireland are ‘a completely different side’ from last year as they aim to show progress vs England

ENGLAND are looking to stress-test Ireland in the Women’s Six Nations today but Stacey Flood says bring it on. The champions are close to full strength for the round-three encounter in Cork, having run in 17 tries in wins over Italy and Wales. And assistant coach Lou Meadows warned: “At the moment teams are slightly stressed by us, but I don’t think they’re stressed enough.” The Girls in Green lost by 78 points in the corresponding fixture last year. And full-back Flood — who lined out for the sevens team at the Paris Olympics last summer — is relishing the challenge. The Railway Union RFC star said: “There’s no better way to test yourself than against the best. “I wasn’t involved last year but I know the team has come on leaps and bounds in what we’re doing now and we’ve shown that and we’ve built so much throughout the last 12 months. “It’s a completely different side and we have way more belief and confidence in our abilities and our structure and we are one unit. "I think that will stand to us a lot this weekend in Cork.” Flood has locked horns with England backs Megan Jones and World Player of the Year Ellie Kildunne at sevens level. And she added: “Hopefully we come up against them on the field this weekend and do well.” The champions close out against France at Twickenham on April 26 before hosting the World Cup in August and September. And Meadows wants England’s attack to be unplayable. She added: “To be able to play what is in front of you with a triple threat skill set across all 15 shirts of kick, run, pass would be amazing. "Our front rows Amy Cokayne and Hannah Botterman occasionally want to stick the ball through off the boot and stuff like that . . . every forward does now as well. It’s about managing that. “I’m not saying they can’t do that, it’s about making sure it’s the right decision to do that and that they have the skill set to execute to the level we need. “That’s where I want to get to with this team so that ultimately defences and defence coaches don’t know how to stop us and are literally sat there going, ‘I do not know what is coming’. “That’s what would make us the best team in the world and should win us a World Cup final.” Ireland coach Scott Bemand has made three changes to the side that ran in eight tries when beating Italy 54-12 in Parma two weeks ago. Emily Lane, Brittany Hogan and Dorothy Wall return in place of Aoibheann Reilly, Ruth Campbell — who both drop to the bench — and Edel McMahon, who has picked up an injury. Amee-Leigh Costigan wears the armband in the absence of McMahon.
