Starbucks offers insane job to travel the world and drink coffee that comes with a whopping salary

Starbucks is selecting two lucky individuals for a once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity to travel the world and spotlight global coffee culture. The Seattle-based coffee giant posted an ad for 'Global Coffee Creators' - a 12-month role offering a salary of $80,100 - $136,000 and the chance to visit at least 10 designated Starbucks locations across the globe. The two candidates selected - one internal and one external - will take on the role of temporary international influencers, tasked with 'capturing the vibes, culture and people behind every Starbucks experience'. 'Help us show the world why Starbucks coffee hits different,' the job posting explained. 'If storytelling, travel and coffee fuel your soul, this is your dream gig.' Destinations may range from Starbucks Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm in Costa Rica to the Starbucks Reserve Roastery Milan, and coffeehouses in Tokyo. The job is remote, and requires candidates to be at least 18 years old, US residents, high school graduates, and possess a valid passport. However, meeting those basic requirements alone isn't enough - a major part of the role centers on content creation, as the coffee chain looks to lead its media efforts with candidates who are creative and media-savvy. As part of the application process, candidates must submit a TikTok video using the hashtag #StarbucksGlobalCoffeeCreator, showcasing their point of view, and include the video link with their application. Candidates should embody a genuine passion for coffee culture and travel, along with strong skills in creating and editing social media content - qualities that are central to the role. Starbucks' new and intriguing position underscores the rising influence of content creation, with a 2023 poll revealing that over half of Gen Z and millennials place their trust in influencers, as reported by Newsweek. According to Statista, in 2025, the global influencer market was valued at a staggering $33.5billion, making it clear why the coffee giant is eager to jump on this booming trend. Despite announcing plans to lay off over a thousand employees in February, the company U-turned and launched its biggest hiring spree to date this month - a move aimed at finally tackling the number one complaint among frustrated customers. The recruitment blitz - adding as many as 85,000 workers across its 17,000 US locations - is a bold move aimed at slashing long wait times. Customers have grown weary of waiting 20 minutes for a drink, with many walking away from the chain entirely. Soaring prices and what critics call a 'soulless' in-store experience have only added to the exodus - helping drive a sharp drop in sales. CEO Brian Niccol, speaking to 14,000 store managers at a Las Vegas event earlier this month, called it 'the biggest human capital investment in connection in the history of Starbucks'. He said the goal isn't just to speed up service, but to ease pressure on overworked employees and bring back the warmth and personal touch that once made Starbucks a beloved 'third place' between home and work. 'Your rosters are going to expand with this,' Niccol told managers, who can begin hiring from August. Five years ago, Starbucks stores averaged 23 employees. Cost-cutting has since trimmed that number down to 18 to 19 - four to five fewer workers per location. Restoring pre-Covid staffing levels would mean hiring between 68,000 and 85,000 people across all US stores. Even focusing solely on the 11,000 company-owned locations, the increase would still be a massive 44,000 to 55,000 hires. Jodi Love, a portfolio manager at T Rowe Price, a Starbucks shareholder, estimated the labor investments would add more than $1bn in additional spending to fiscal 2026. Explaining the U-turn, Niccol told the Financial Times: 'We over-rotated on the idea of equipment and that replacing the humanity of service.' The application to become a 'Global Coffee Creator' launched on May 28 and will close today - June 14.
