If the goal in creating a giant hot dog-shaped mascot for the new soccer team, the Portland Bangers, was to get attention, well, mission accomplished. Saucy T. Sausage, the recently unveiled mascot for the Portland Bangers, has turned plenty of heads locally. And now, Saucy’s been grilled on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” In Tuesday’s episode, during the regular “Meanwhile” segment, the host showed an image of Saucy, complete with a string of small-sized sausages trailing down from his -- its? -- head. As the audience laughed, Colbert said, “Oh my God! Not only is he horrifying, he’s wearing his own children as hair!” Colbert continued, “According to a spoke-Banger, Saucy T. Sausage is ‘known for his slightly overcooked ego, constant flexing and belief that he’s Portland’s sexiest piece of meat.’” The audience kept laughing, as Colbert said, “I’m not sure if this says sexy. I think this says, ‘I’m about to commit a home invasion.’ He looks like a porno version of the Grinch.” As The Oregonian/OregonLive reported, the Bangers were created by the same people behind the Portland Pickles. According to a video released on Instagram, The Oregonian/OregonLive said, “Saucy was created by Dillon T. Pickle,“ mascot of the Portland Pickles. “The video shows Dillon as a mad scientist who plants a pickle in his backyard that somehow turns into a hot dog, which is then dropped into some sort of radioactive fluid.” — Kristi Turnquist covers features and entertainment.
