Stephen Fleming Loses Cool On Question At CSK's 'Outdated' Batting Approach: 'We'll See Who Wins IPL In The End'
@Source: timesnownews.com
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered their first defeat to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at home since 2008 after they went down by 50 runs in their second game of IPL 2025. While most teams are trying to go bonkers from ball one, with 250 being the new 200, CSK have stuck with the old-school approach to start cautiously and pick momentum later in the innings. It worked well for them against MI as they were chasing a target of 156, however, RCB posted 196, and the team failed to keep up with the run rate. Early wickets pegged them back, and the mounting run rate aided in the collapse. Meanwhile, CSK coach Stephen Fleming lost his cool when a reporter asked him about CSK's 'outdated ' batting approach. "In the first game, you chased 156 in almost 20 overs. Today, you scored 146. I know this is your way of playing cricket, but do you think it's kind of getting outdated?" the reporter asked. "What do you mean by my way of playing?" Fleming quipped back at the reporter who tried to explain how other teams are trying to get 250 while batting. Fleming then hit back at the reporter, saying just because they don't swing from ball one, their approach doesn't become outdated, asking the reporter to not count out CSK. "You talk about firepower. We have got firepower all the way through. I don't understand this question. Just because we don't swing from ball No.1 and have some luck go our way, just see the end, who wins it. It is a positive brand of cricket. Don't discount us." responded CSK coach. The reporter clarified that he was not trying to discount CSK. "I am not discounting you," said reporter. "You sort of are. Silly question,: Fleming replied. 'No Home Advantage For CSK' - Fleming Fleming further said that CSK have no home advantage at Chepauk as they have not been able to read the pitches at the venue. "Well, as we've been telling you for a number of years, there was no home advantage at Chepauk. We've won away from home a couple of times. And we haven't been able to read… we've been really honest with you," said Fleming during the post-match press conference. "We haven't been able to read the wickets here in the last couple of years. So, it's not new. We are trying to come to grips each day with what we get, and we don't know. It's not the Chepauk [of old] where you can just go in and play four spinners. We're having to work really hard to try and understand what the nature of each pitch is, and it's quite different," he added.
