The federal government has committed $1 million of the $6.3 million budget. Cricket NSW will chip in $200,000 if it gets the green light. Federal Labor MP Matt Thistlethwaite, whose electorate of Kingsford Smith includes Maroubra, said he was “concerned about the size of the current proposal and the loss of green space”. “I grew up across the road from Snape Park and I spent my childhood there playing footy and cricket,” Thistlethwaite said. “I have asked Randwick City Council to put [the plan] on hold so I can meet with Randwick Petersham Cricket Club, councillors and the community to work on an alternative proposal.”
