'Still Waiting’: Jason Gillespie Rips Into Pakistan Cricket Board Over Unpaid Dues
@Source: timesnownews.com
Former Pakistan head coach Jason Gillespie has accused the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of withholding his salary. Gillespie, a former World Cup-winning Australian fast bowler, was hired as Pakistan's red-ball coach in April 2024 on a year-long contract. However, he resigned from the post in October 2024 ahead of the Test series in South Africa. Despite Pakistan's historic ODI series win in Australia - their first in 22 years - the team largely failed to produce positive results. The PCB subsequently sacked high-performance coach Tim Nielsen without consulting Gillespie. He was also unhappy with the PCB for sidelining him in major team decisions, including squad selection. Additionally, the PCB appointed Shahid Aslam on the recommendation of interim white-ball coach Aaqib Javed - a move that did not sit well with Gillespie. In a candid interview with PakPassion, Gillespie revealed that he has not yet received his full salary and expressed hope that the Mohsin Naqvi-led board would release the pending amount. “Yes, without going into details. I am still waiting on some remuneration from work that has been done,” he said, adding, “That has been a little disappointing, but hopefully it can be sorted sooner rather than later.” "My experience in Pakistan has dampened my love for coaching. It was a huge blow. I was deeply disappointed by how things ended. It made me question whether I even wanted to return to full-time coaching,” Gillespie said. The Australian also alleged that he was ignored by PCB officials, with his calls going unanswered for weeks. The PCB had once hailed Gillespie’s appointment as a turning point, but his departure and claims of unpaid dues now paint a far more chaotic picture behind the scenes.
