The under-fire BBC show previously revealed the brand new lineup of famous faces taking part in this year's series. Emmerdale star Lewis Cope was the final participant to be announced by bosses on Thursday evening following Kristian Nair's withdrawal. However, before the show's first episode has even aired, it's emerged Lewis has years of professional dance experience under his belt before even hitting the ballroom. Lewis has been dancing since he was just 10 years old. In 2013, when he was 18, he appeared on Got To Dance with a group called Ruff Diamond and sailed through to the live finals. Lewis took part in the competition with his pals Jason Lun, Ryan Llewellyn, Aaron Staunch, Ryan Wilson and Zac Healey. Diversity star Ashley Banjo, who was a judge on the series, praised the group at the time and branded them one of the best acts to ever appear on the show. He said: 'You guys just absolutely smashed your own bar. You have to know that you are brilliant because you are up there with the best that has been on that stage.' The group represent the United Kingdom in the World Hip Hop Dance Championships. Before Lewis quit the group in 2015, they danced on BBC Children In Need, performing alongside EastEnders actors for the charity appeal. After he left the group, Lewis went on to study at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Last week, it was unearthed how Dani Dyer, who is also taking part in Strictly, had referred to herself as a 'qualified dancer' in her 2019 book. These days Lewis is best known for his performance in ITV's Emmerdale as series regular Nicky Milligan, who in an explosive storyline was revealed to be a member of the series' iconic Tate and Dingle families. He bid farewell to Emmerdale in July 2024 after 18 months, when his character Nicky decided to leave the village with his boyfriend Suni Sharma. Lewis was nominated for the Rising Star Award at the 2023 National Television Awards for the role. Away from the Dales, Lewis' other television work includes roles in Vera, Mrs Sidhu Investigates and Hetty Feather, and he previously worked with David Beckham on an advertising campaign. On stage, Lewis has played the lead role of Leonard Vole in the Olivier-nominated Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution and toured the UK in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow; at the age of 11, he made his stage debut playing Michael in the West End smash Billy Elliot: The Musical.
