Five students staying at a hostel run by Kuniya College of Arts and Science, Kasaragod, were admitted to a private hospital at Cherkala here after reportedly suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea, raising suspicion of food poisoning. Several others showed similar symptoms but required only outpatient care.
The five, including four girls and a boy, were hospitalised reportedly with symptoms that began two days ago. The authorities are yet to ascertain why only a few among the 900 campus residents fell ill.
Health workers who inspected the hostel and its kitchen after receiving a complaint reported that the facilities were being maintained in a hygienic manner.
Hospital sources confirmed that the condition of all the affected students was stable.
