Supercomputer reveals how far Rangers will go in Europa League with Athletic Bilbao up next after Fenerbahce drama
@Source: thescottishsun.co.uk
LOOK away now Rangers fans: the supercomputer has spoken.
The Ibrox men marched through to the Europa League quarter finals with a 3-2 win on penalties against Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce after a thrilling 3-3 draw over the two matches and extra time.
But things don't get any easier for them now with a dangerous Athletic Bilbao side waiting in the last eight.
They roared back from a 2-1 first leg deficit to book their spot in the quarter finals at their imposing San Mames stadium.
And now Complete Sports' supercomputer has crunched all the numbers and given its verdict on how much longer the Gers can expect their storming run in this competition to last.
And the bad news is they DON'T expect Barry Ferguson's men to make it past the challenge of the Basque outfit, going down 4-2 on aggregate over the two games.
It actually expects the Ibrox men to get a score draw in the forbidding San Mames, escaping with a 2-2 draw.
But the damage will all have been done by then, with the supercomputer predicting another damaging 2-0 reverse at Ibrox.
If its predictions come true, all UK involvement in the competition will be done at the last eight stage with Lyon crushing Man Utd 6-2 on aggregate and Frankfurt nicking a close one 3-2 against Spurs.
It sees Athletic Bilbao going on to reach the final of the competition on home soil, before going down 1-0 to Lazio.
Meanwhile, Bilbao star Nico Williams has warned Rangers they're UNSTOPPABLE in front of their own fans.
The Ibrox side's thrilling win over two legs against Fenerbahce sees them pitted with the Basque outfit in the last eight in the Europa League, with the second leg to be played at the imposing San Mames stadium.
That's the same venue which will host the final and Wiliams reckons their fans will roar them all the way to the showpiece.
Spanish international star Nico bagged two goals as Athletic reversed a 2-1 first leg deficit against Roma to book their quarter final spot.
Afterwards he said: "I think the key was playing as a team and especially our fans. They pushed us forward from the very start.
"Their support is very important for us and everyone can see that we're unstoppable when we have their support."
Nico, who combined with older brother Inaki for the crucial first goal just before half time, said: "I think we needed that goal to go on believing and keep our dream alive.
"I have a good connection with my brother and I know the way he crosses it in. We're very pleased with this win and we're going to enjoy this now."
Spanish sides have won 11 of the last 19 runnings of this competition, whether as Uefa Cup or Europa League with Feyenoord the last team to win this trophy in their own stadium against Borussia Dortmund back in 2002
