The NFL draft is only weeks away, and the top prospects are beginning to earn their in-person invites. On Monday, multiple players, including Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden and Georgia defensive end/edge rusher Mykel Williams, accepted their invites to attend. However, a third prospect also accepted their invite, which surprised many across the NFL landscape—Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe."Alabama QB Jalen Milroe has accepted an invitation to attend the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay," NFL Draft expert Dane Brugler said on X.As it stands, the consensus has been that Miami quarterback Cam Ward will be drafted No. 1 overall by the Tennessee Titans later this month. After that, the quarterback pecking order has been rather mixed. Some have Colorado's Shedeur Sanders going in the top 10, while others have him dropping out of the top 20 in favor of fast-rising Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. Either way, however, the general thought has been that Ward, Sanders and Dart are the only three quarterbacks with a chance to go Round 1.Nevertheless, Milroe has been invited and accepted that opportunity, leading many to believe he could be a sneaky pick to find his way into the bottom half of the first round. As it happens, there is a team outside of the top-20 picks that needs a quarterback—the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have been seen as a good fit for Dart, while Sanders has not been a popular pick for the franchise. So if Dart and Sanders are both gone by pick 21, and the Steelers are desperate to find their future quarterback in Round 1 this year, Milroe would not be a bad choice. His athletic ability sets him apart from any quarterback in the class, and his arm talent is evident.Still, another prospect, Quinn Ewers, might have a higher long-term upside.Of course, there is also the chance that this will be a major mistake for Milroe. If it goes wrong, it wouldn't be the first time a player has been forced to stay in the green room until Day 2.Just two years ago, Will Levis sat until Day 2 before the Titans traded up for him. Other players who waited longer than expected included Aaron Rodgers, Brady Quinn, Johnny Manziel, Geno Smith, and Drew Lock.Only time will tell if Milroe is the latest quarterback to be stuck in the green room or the next surprising trade-up target, like Bo Nix in 2024.
