Suzanne Kane speaks about 98FM show exit for the first time after ‘tough’ few months
@Source: rsvplive.ie
Suzanne Kane has been working in the radio industry since 2002. After catching the broadcasting bug from her cousin, UK-based radio presenter Chris Moyles, at age 14, Suzanne worked for various radio stations from Spin 1038, Q102, FM104, Classic Hits, and most recently, as one half of the show, Brian Dowling & Suzanne Kane on Dublin’s 98FM. Loyal listeners will know Suzanne quietly disappeared from the airwaves earlier this year and recently announced that, after almost five years, she was leaving the station. In the brand new issue of RSVP Magazine, we catch up with Suzanne to find out how she’s doing now that she has “come out the other side” of a difficult few months, her rock-solid marriage that holds her up in the darkest of times, and her career hopes for the future. Speaking about her 98FM show exit for the first time, Suzanne admitted she feels “really sad” about how the show came to an end. “I feel great. I’m really, really sad to have left the radio show. I adore the medium of radio, and I love chatting to listeners every day. “The past couple of months have just been so rough. I think I’ve typed the words ‘I’m really glad to be out the far side of it’ more times than I care to admit. But I’ve learned loads about myself. “Ultimately, all I wanted to do was have a happy environment and get on, and have everybody love what they’re doing, and that wasn’t the way it all panned out, which is really sad”. Suzanne was off air since February but only publicly shared the news of her departure in June, however the mum-of-three says she didn’t struggle to maintain a dignified silence despite the speculation about her absence. “It’s not my style. I have no want in the world to annihilate anybody. I don’t like confrontation or conflict. I was standing up for myself, it was never about anybody else. My dad passed 20 years ago but he always taught me that you never get your point across when you shout. I’ve learned that you don’t have to be the loudest person in the room to be heard”. Instead, Suzanne said she took comfort in the outpouring of support she received from listeners and social media followers who took the time to send a comforting message. “Sometimes saying very little is all you need to say, and you move on to the next bit. Also, for all the bad rap social media gets, the support I have gotten from women on Instagram has been incredible. It’s like a galhood of complete strangers that were sending me messages just to say, ‘I get it, I see you’. Working mums understand the struggle”.
